The Monteverde Wildlife Refuge began as a family-owned dairy farm in the misty mountains of Monteverde, Costa Rica. Over time, the owners recognized the ecological importance of the land and transitioned it into a conservation area. Thus, the refuge was born, now home to a rich array of biodiversity. In 2001, the Night Walk was introduced—a guided nighttime hike that allows visitors to explore the forest when 80% of its wildlife is most active. This unique experience offers the chance to spot sloths, kinkajous, frogs, snakes, insects, and sleeping birds, all under the guidance of expert naturalists.
